Ready to clear out icky memories and emotions?
Tired of reacting to things that remind you of the past?
Do you feel stuck in your life and not know why?
Lifespan Integration (LI) is a new
therapy that facilitates rapid healing in adults who suffered abuse
and/or neglect while growing up. LI connects a current problem to a
past memory and uses imagery to re-visit that past memory and
resolve what happened. The therapist leads the client through
a time line of their life using visual images of scenes from their
life. As they do this, memories and images prove to the mind
and body that what happened was a long time ago. This "proof"
facilitates a deeper change than is possible with typical talk
therapy.
It is common for adults who suffered
through abuse or neglect during childhood to spend years in therapy
working through past issues. Yet many cannot move past those
traumatic events. People get stuck because they were traumatized
when little, a time when their neural systems were developing.
The result is that they become "hard-wired" to perceive certain
events in a negative way in order to protect themselves from further
pain. Adults abused in childhood often have poor self-image and an
ongoing internal dialogue filled with negative talk, and chronic
anxiety and/or depression. This often fails to change regardless of
how successful these people are in their present lives, and no
matter how much "talking" therapy they have done.
Lifespan Integration is a very gentle method that works on a deep neural level to change patterned responses and out dated defensive strategies. LI therapy helps clients connect unpleasant emotions and dysfunctional patterns of behavior with memories of past events from which these feelings and strategies originated. When we make these connections at a deep level, the body and mind "re-sets" the neural system bringing it more in line with their current life situation. After LI therapy, clients find themselves addressing and reacting to current life situations in more age appropriate way. After several sessions of LI, clients have reported that they feel calmer, are more self-accepting, and are better able to enjoy their intimate relationships.
